Premier Pet Gentle Leader Headcollar for Dogs large for pets 60 - 130-lbs Review

Premier Pet Gentle Leader Headcollar for Dogs large for pets 60 - 130-lbs
Average Reviews:

I completely disagree with the first review. I have one of these and love it. My dog was out of control on walks, pulling and weaving all over the place. It made walking him truly exhausting. After working with him on the gentle leader, he is under control and our walks are much more enjoyable.
The first review complained that the product is unnatural. Well, so is a collar, but we all use those. The dog just has to get used to it. Once they do (took my dog about 4-5 walks), they stop pulling and....get this...walk with you! It works by hooking the leash under their snout instead of on the collar. That way, when they try to pull, they pull their whole head sideways. The fact that my walks are no longer a mobile wrestling match make me walk my dog MORE OFTEN which is better for the both of us.

Tri-Tronics Dummy Receiver for G2 and G3 (Strap Included) 1245000 Review

Tri-Tronics Dummy Receiver for G2 and G3 (Strap Included) 1245000
Average Reviews:

I have no problem with this product. It is very well made, and works exactly the way you will want it to. I only want to add a caution to be very careful using this with a rescue dog with an unknown past. I tried it with mine, following directions and being very careful not to overdo it. I tested it on myself more than I actually used it on him. He was totally freaked out. He did what I wanted while on the leash, but the moment we were done training and I took the leash off, he bolted and wouldn't come back to me. My girlfriend had to go find him for me finally, because it was getting dark and he was still afraid of me. We've patched things up, and I'll probably never put that collar on him again. He was a rescue dog the we got at about a year old, and I can only guess that something bad in his unknown past makes this the wrong way to go with him. I felt absolutely terrible for days.
Nonetheless, I've seen this used successfully on other dogs, so as long as you follow instructions and be certain that your shock level is noticeable but not painful to your dog, it could be a good tool. Just watch your dog very carefully as you use it. If he's looking nervous or overly submissive, take the collar off (after you get him in the house,) and reevaluate. A dog with an unknown history may have been very abused, and will find even the lowest settings traumatic.
Still, good device, works like it should.

SportDOG Field Trainer Standard SD-400 Review

SportDOG Field Trainer Standard SD-400
Average Reviews:

Wow, What a great purchase & tool for "fido". Was looking for a portable "safety net" while on our walkabouts. Our 2-year old yellow lab is prone to run with the rabbits. My husband and I read the reviews for multiple brands, chose the SportDog. Got it at a great price from A.....n.Read the provided manuals.Charged the batteries.Let Sami see smell & taste his new bright orange necklace. We played and frolicked like the manual said. Then we let him hear the beep(s).Then we checked the sensitivity level, just once. He's a changed dog. He sits, stays & stops when commanded. When he starts after the bunnies he immediately stops sits and looks at us when asked to, before he continues in chase.I love the ability to now walk around the property and let Sami swim and stare at the fish in the pond.He has only been reprimanded once, since. This SD-400 Trainer worked great for us.All of the teen kids have learned to use the Sport Dog.This is one of the greatest tools we have ever purchased.Thanx A.....n & Sport Dog.

Dogtra Element Hunter Series 1/2 Mile Remote Trainer Transmitter and Collar Review

Dogtra Element Hunter Series 1/2 Mile Remote Trainer Transmitter and Collar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
initially i was a little hesitant about buying the dogtra because its quite expensive and i wasnt sure if it would work. it was the best decision i made. my dog was a crazy hyper pointer mix that would be far more interested in a leaf blowing in the wind than any obedience training (even if you were holding a steak). we had a trainer come teach us exactly when to use it and how to use it. A few days after our learning session, our dog was able to be off leash with much confidence. the control is quite simple and easy to use. i would recommend this product!!

SportDOG WetlandHunter 2000 Review

SportDOG WetlandHunter 2000
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having purchased some less expensive radio controlled collars without much success in training, I decided to spend more and get a higher quality product, especially one with more range. When the SportDog 2000 arrived, I reviewed the training material and prepared to train my dog. I quickly realized that I wasn't spending enough time training my dog to effectively use the collar, she knows all the basic commands, but doesn't always obey. It sat in the closet for a year before my 17 year old son undertook the training. He quickly found our 70 lb dog has a healthy respect for the collar. I now use it weekly with the dog and am very satisfied with the results. I have personally shocked the dog only once, when she took off after a couple kids and ignored my command to come. One shock and she quickly moved back to my side. I like the collar, because my dog used to run away as soon as she was off leash. Now, we can play fetch and go on walks in a nearby park with out problem. I recommend this product to anyone willing to invest the time to use it as directed in the training guide.

SportDOG SportHunter 3/4 Mile, SD-1800 Review

SportDOG SportHunter 3/4 Mile, SD-1800
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the SD-1800 and love it. I have a 130lb, 18 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. I have had other breeds of dogs (German Shepherds, Rotties, etc... with no problems), but I was amazed how big he got and how fast it happened. Rigdgebacks are very stubborn dogs on top of all of this. They are a breed that if not trained to know who the boss is, will continually test their limits.
I tried training classes, chokers, and finally a pinch collar. He didn't even flinch, nor did he ever listen. I have a four year old son who was frightened by him, not because he was mean, but because he would knock him over, climb all over him and scratch him with his paws while trying to play with him. He just did what he wanted when he wanted. He would run full force into me and wipe me out, knocking me on the ground with his enthusiasm. He tackled strangers, tables, anything he wanted. Never in a mean way, he never growled or anything close to showing aggression. He was fine with anyone near his crate or food bowl, so he wasn't a mean dog. He was just out of control. He was meant to be an indoor dog, but his behavior had him spending most of time in our yard. I was saddened that I might have to find him a new home.
This collar was my last option and I am so glad that I tried it. I was so afraid that it wouldn't be strong enough and he wouldn't respond. He has a very high pain threshold. But I was greatly surprised. After 5 minutes on this collar he was no longer knocking me over. My first goal was to teach him "no." It took about 4 times to say it with the collar on and pressing the button, before he was responding to "no" without me having to press any buttons. He is great to be around now. He still charges me when he sees me and is excited, but he comes to a complete stop about a foot in front of me and then sits for me to pet him and love on him. I don't even need him on a leash anymore. He responds to my commands easily.
On the technical aspects of this product, I love that it is completely waterproof, not just water resistant. We have two ponds on our property that he loves to jump in. So that is a great benefit. The remote is small and easy to use. And it is also waterproof. Both can be submerged completely in water and be fine. This is not considered a "throw away" collar, meaning if it is broke, you can still fix it. I looked at the models that were cheaper by other companies, but for a little more in price, I was able to get one that would last much longer.
Needless to say, I love this collar! It allowed me to keep my puppy and make him a real part of our family.

Innotek Automatic No-Bark Trainer Review

Innotek Automatic No-Bark Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this collar for 3 months and I want to throw it away. Maybe it works for other dogs, I don't know, but it certainly doesn't work for my beagle. I read the reviews for it on the petsmart website and it seemed to get good reviews, but for my dog, I have to disagree. The collar is supposed to give a warning zap, and then if the dog continues to bark, it gives him a stronger zap, but half the time it doesn't zap him at all (and that's with a new battery so I know it isn't the battery). Even after it has given him a strong zap, he waits a second and keeps on barking. He has learned nothing from this collar. The only thing he has received is sore spots on his neck from the prongs rubbing back and forth. We've tried loosening it, making a little tighter so it doesn't move around or rub, taking it off after a couple hours use, but he still gets sores.
Personally, I'm going to invest in a collar that is more expensive, has no prongs, and has a remote so that I can train him not to bark as well as correct naughty behavior. To add to that, I want something that is rechargeable! With this product constantly needing new batteries at $7- $8 bucks a pop, this product is not the deal I thought I was getting!

Innotek Rechargeable Basic Remote Trainer Review

Innotek Rechargeable Basic Remote Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me say that this product was immensely helpful in teaching our dog not to run away. I don't worry about him any more. I know that when I say "come", he'll come. However, there are a couple shortcomings.
The biggest problem is the battery life. Even with relatively infrequent use, the collar needed its batteries replaced at least monthly, costing about $6 each time. We later switched to a rechargeable. (The remote batteries last a good while.)
You have to open the remote and set DIP switches to choose the base intensity. Then when you press the button, the dog is shocked with that intensity. If you slide a "boost" switch on the side of the remote, it brings the intensity up by two levels. For our dog, this wasn't flexible enough. For indoor training (e.g. enforcing the no-dog-on-the-rug rule), a level of 3 or 4 would have been sufficient. However, even using the "boost" switch would not have been enough when he was running away outside. Our dog needed the maximum stimulation plus the boost to overcome the allure of running away. But that level (without the boost) would be excessive for indoor training. Ultimately, we purchased a "Command Series" trainer from Innotek that gave us more flexibility.
One thing we miss about this trainer is the small remote with a single button. You can easily keep it in your pocket, and discreetly push the button when guests are over. Or, if you have to push it fast, you can often just slap your pocket, feel the button and push it through your pants. The button is nicely designed to be easy to feel (seated in a depression in the remote) without being easy to accidentally press.

SportDog by Pet Safe ProHunter 2400 1 1/2 mile Review

SportDog by Pet Safe ProHunter 2400 1 1/2 mile
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned this collar and transmitter for about 12 months now. We purchased it with 2 additional collars for our two new large breed puppies and an older 2 year old Catahoula. We have 10 acres which is fenced with electric horse wire. The dogs soon learned to hunker down under the fence and go roaming. We bought the collars to teach them their boundaries. All the dogs are rescue dogs with unknown backgrounds - my wife is a veterinarian.
First the bad:
The transmitter supports up to 6 collars, however the more collars you add the less features you have. With 3 collars we are only able to 'nick' (a brief shock) or shock (hold the button for up to 2 buttons for a continuous shock).
The collars are bulky - our dogs do not seem to know they are wearing them, but smaller dogs may feel uncomfortable.
The Good:
The transmitter has a great range.
The collars stay charged for around 2 days (we charge ours every night as a habit)
The transmitter charge lasts around 4 months before needing recharging
The collars are rugged. Our large puppies play hard together and they have never been a problem.
The collars have a big bite. The scale goes up to 10. I use 1 normally, but had to go to 3 just once when one dog got in a fight with a neighbors dog.
How we used ours:
Dogs are smart, and they know when you are not around, and will adjust their habits accordingly. We used discreet training, and not the usual method as detailed in the book. We were not using the collars to get the dogs to perform a task, more to stop them from doing unwanted behavior. I train my dogs with a clicker for wanted behavior.
Our dogs quickly learned that all fences are 'hot', whether they were electric or pipe or chain-link.
Our dogs learned that horses or cattle being chased can shock them from 5 feet away.
Our dogs learned that pickups being chased will also shock you.
Our dogs learned that vegetable patches are shocking.
Our dogs learned that aggressive behavior to siblings shocked you.
Our dogs now freely roam our 10 acres. They never go out of the property line without their masters inviting them to do so. They never chase horses or cattle. They play fight, but never take it further. They return home at my whistle for their dinner. They are happy and content dogs.
If you worry this collar is cruel then you are not thinking about it logically. An ill-behaved or aggressive dog is a liability to itself and others. My wife (the veterinarian) sees many cases were one dog attacked another member of its family, got hit by a car whilst chasing it, was shot after worrying neighbors live stock, etc.
Keep your pet safe, he will thank you for it.

IQ 400 yard remote trainer Review

IQ 400 yard remote trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I owned one collar previous to this one that I would not even use after the first time because the settings were not flexible enough. This collar has a rolling dial that goes from O-100, I have never used mine above 40. There is also a vibrator feature which is great for recall. I purchased my collar from my dog trainer who trained me and my dog. My primary reason for buying this collar was so that I can walk my dog without a leash and still have recall. Since his training he heels great and I can let him run free when appropriate. It also came in handy when my dog was trying to break down my sliding glass door. They learn quick and then there is peace.
As someone who has been working in rescue for many years I can say that training your dog with shock collars is far more humane than getting rid of your dog because you can't live with him/her comfortably. A well trained dog makes for a good lifetime companion.

Hootoo Underground Electric Dog&Pet Fence Containment System Review

Hootoo Underground Electric DogandPet Fence Containment System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product was a complete waste of my money. I would give it zero stars if I could. Our dog can not walk within 15 feet of the flags without getting zapped, and he can't walk by our garage or any of our outdoor electrical outlets (of which we have many) without getting shocked. There is no way we can use this product safely for our dog. There is a reason it is far cheaper than any of the other fence systems. Pay more, and purchase something which is actually usable.

I am very happy with the product.
I have a Lab Puppy, He is very naughty and he likes to destroy my furniture and dig holes at backyard.
I was looking for many different brand remote training collar for him but I found out some training collars do not even have the manufacturer information on the product package and even the manual is not easy to understand. I have return few other brand collars until I find this one.
This one is good. The manufacturer is in US and I call them for help, they were very nice to talk with.
There is only thing that there is no switch on this product and the Transmitter eats the battery, but I am OK with that as the battery is not that expensive.

I just bought one of these units on Ebay, and it is a total piece of crap.
The unit barely makes any shock and the remote feels like tiny cheap plastic.
I thought maybe my unit was broken, and when I emailed the manufacturer they told me to contact the seller. When I contacted the Ebay seller they told me to contact the manufacturer. After 2 emails, the manufacturer stopped responding. So basically this company has no website and no warranty. Awesome.
So now I am stuck with some piece of junk Elite-Tek shock collar that totally does not work. I would stay away and go with another brand.

Lava Electronics SP207 QPets 4 in 1 Remote Training Collar for Small/Medium Dogs
Average Reviews:

Two big drawbacks for this product.
First, the collar would not stay tight on our dog. As soon as she ran around for less than five minutes the collar was flapping around her throat. That means no contact for the electrodes. A cheap collar ruins the product.
Second, the shocking device needed to be completely dismantled to turn it off. The batteries have to be removed because there is no switch.
Overall, this product was a waste of money. Don't make the same mistake I did, I tried to get by with the cheapest product I could find. I just ordered another training collar for twice the price. I hope it works better.
