(More customer reviews)My veterinarian recommended I try this halter in order to control a 70 pound adolescent sheepdog who was next to impossible to walk. While the veterinarian admitted had no experience with the halter, an employee in his office had highly recommended its use. She used to have a husky who was a former sled dog and this product was the only thing that would control her husky. Our Ginnie Mae chased cars, stalked animals and seemed to think she was a sled dog pulling me! Choker collars did little to deter her dangerous behavior. She would tug until she backed out of a regular collar. If she saw a bird my arm was torn out of the socket! On more than one occasion, I ended up mid air and on the ground! Daily walks were dangerous and neither one of the kids could walk her.
Our first walk with the Sporn Halter was amazing. This formerly uncontrollable dog never tugged at the leash--NOT ONCE! The halter completely subdued her behavior. The straps around her front legs are not at all tight so the dog seems completely comfortable. It is easy to fit, easy to get on and off the dog and the dog does not seem to be bothered by the apparatus. The Sporn collar can remain on the dog (with the arm straps detached) but I have found it easier to just leave her regular collar on and leave the sporn halter on the leash. No reason the kids cannot walk her now!
I do not know why this apparatus works but it absolutely does!

(More customer reviews)I like this because it is easy to put on and take off--and it is flexible for when I want to let my pooch off leash but not take off the harness. It helps a little with pulling but is no magic contraption.
I like it for my older pup who I am not trying to train but want to keep from choking herself on a walk, but I gave it four stars because it doesn't stop pulling like it claims.

(More customer reviews)I completely disagree with the first review. I have one of these and love it. My dog was out of control on walks, pulling and weaving all over the place. It made walking him truly exhausting. After working with him on the gentle leader, he is under control and our walks are much more enjoyable.
The first review complained that the product is unnatural. Well, so is a collar, but we all use those. The dog just has to get used to it. Once they do (took my dog about 4-5 walks), they stop pulling and....get this...walk with you! It works by hooking the leash under their snout instead of on the collar. That way, when they try to pull, they pull their whole head sideways. The fact that my walks are no longer a mobile wrestling match make me walk my dog MORE OFTEN which is better for the both of us.

It takes a few hours for pups to get used to the feel of face straps and passersby sometimes think the dog is mean, assuming the dog is muzzled, but your dog will listen to your commands in no time. We only use ours now in situations where the dog will become very excited such as entering the bark park. Being disabled, this is all the difference between being able to take her, or not. It works!

(More customer reviews)I have no problem with this product. It is very well made, and works exactly the way you will want it to. I only want to add a caution to be very careful using this with a rescue dog with an unknown past. I tried it with mine, following directions and being very careful not to overdo it. I tested it on myself more than I actually used it on him. He was totally freaked out. He did what I wanted while on the leash, but the moment we were done training and I took the leash off, he bolted and wouldn't come back to me. My girlfriend had to go find him for me finally, because it was getting dark and he was still afraid of me. We've patched things up, and I'll probably never put that collar on him again. He was a rescue dog the we got at about a year old, and I can only guess that something bad in his unknown past makes this the wrong way to go with him. I felt absolutely terrible for days.
Nonetheless, I've seen this used successfully on other dogs, so as long as you follow instructions and be certain that your shock level is noticeable but not painful to your dog, it could be a good tool. Just watch your dog very carefully as you use it. If he's looking nervous or overly submissive, take the collar off (after you get him in the house,) and reevaluate. A dog with an unknown history may have been very abused, and will find even the lowest settings traumatic.
Still, good device, works like it should.

Got it at a great price from A.....n.Read the provided manuals.Charged the batteries.Let Sami see smell & taste his new bright orange necklace.We played and frolicked like the manual said.Then we let him hear the beep(s).Then we checked the sensitivity level, just once. He's a changed dog. He sits, stays & stops when commanded. When he starts after the bunnies he immediately stops sits and looks at us when asked to, before he continues in chase.I love the ability to now walk around the property and let Sami swim and stare at the fish in the pond.He has only been reprimanded once, since.This SD-400 Trainer worked great for us.All of the teen kids have learned to use the Sport Dog.This is one of the greatest tools we have ever purchased.Thanx A.....n & Sport Dog.

(More customer reviews)initially i was a little hesitant about buying the dogtra because its quite expensive and i wasnt sure if it would work. it was the best decision i made. my dog was a crazy hyper pointer mix that would be far more interested in a leaf blowing in the wind than any obedience training (even if you were holding a steak). we had a trainer come teach us exactly when to use it and how to use it. A few days after our learning session, our dog was able to be off leash with much confidence. the control is quite simple and easy to use. i would recommend this product!!

(More customer reviews)Having purchased some less expensive radio controlled collars without much success in training, I decided to spend more and get a higher quality product, especially one with more range. When the SportDog 2000 arrived, I reviewed the training material and prepared to train my dog. I quickly realized that I wasn't spending enough time training my dog to effectively use the collar, she knows all the basic commands, but doesn't always obey. It sat in the closet for a year before my 17 year old son undertook the training. He quickly found our 70 lb dog has a healthy respect for the collar. I now use it weekly with the dog and am very satisfied with the results. I have personally shocked the dog only once, when she took off after a couple kids and ignored my command to come. One shock and she quickly moved back to my side. I like the collar, because my dog used to run away as soon as she was off leash. Now, we can play fetch and go on walks in a nearby park with out problem. I recommend this product to anyone willing to invest the time to use it as directed in the training guide.

SportDOG SportHunter 3/4 Mile, SD-1800 Review

(More customer reviews)I have the SD-1800 and love it. I have a 130lb, 18 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. I have had other breeds of dogs (German Shepherds, Rotties, etc... with no problems), but I was amazed how big he got and how fast it happened. Rigdgebacks are very stubborn dogs on top of all of this. They are a breed that if not trained to know who the boss is, will continually test their limits.
I tried training classes, chokers, and finally a pinch collar. He didn't even flinch, nor did he ever listen. I have a four year old son who was frightened by him, not because he was mean, but because he would knock him over, climb all over him and scratch him with his paws while trying to play with him. He just did what he wanted when he wanted. He would run full force into me and wipe me out, knocking me on the ground with his enthusiasm. He tackled strangers, tables, anything he wanted. Never in a mean way, he never growled or anything close to showing aggression. He was fine with anyone near his crate or food bowl, so he wasn't a mean dog. He was just out of control. He was meant to be an indoor dog, but his behavior had him spending most of time in our yard. I was saddened that I might have to find him a new home.
This collar was my last option and I am so glad that I tried it. I was so afraid that it wouldn't be strong enough and he wouldn't respond. He has a very high pain threshold. But I was greatly surprised. After 5 minutes on this collar he was no longer knocking me over. My first goal was to teach him "no." It took about 4 times to say it with the collar on and pressing the button, before he was responding to "no" without me having to press any buttons. He is great to be around now. He still charges me when he sees me and is excited, but he comes to a complete stop about a foot in front of me and then sits for me to pet him and love on him. I don't even need him on a leash anymore. He responds to my commands easily.
On the technical aspects of this product, I love that it is completely waterproof, not just water resistant. We have two ponds on our property that he loves to jump in. So that is a great benefit. The remote is small and easy to use. And it is also waterproof. Both can be submerged completely in water and be fine. This is not considered a "throw away" collar, meaning if it is broke, you can still fix it. I looked at the models that were cheaper by other companies, but for a little more in price, I was able to get one that would last much longer.
Needless to say, I love this collar! It allowed me to keep my puppy and make him a real part of our family.

(More customer reviews)I'm a professional dog walker and trainer so it's important to me to have a wide variety of harnesses and collars on hand. Recently I ran into a nice couple who had 2 miniature greyhounds but were unable to find a good fitting harness for them. They're long necks and lean bodies made it near impossible to find anything that didn't hurt their delicate frame. The owners had even contacted a greyhound breeder and organization to ask what type of harness they could recommend, but they had absolutely no recommendations. When we attempted to try these harnesses on the dogs, they fit like a glove. They were perfect and flawless. The dogs seemed comfortable in them and even enjoyed wearing them. Once they were leashed, the owners had full control over the movements of their dogs, without having to worry about either dog slipping out of the harness nor causing harm to their delicate bodies.
I highly recommend this harness to all small dog owners, and that goes double for anyone who owns a miniature greyhound or a dog with a similar structure.
